The Devil and Daniel Webster (1941)

Película de fantasía publicada en época de guerra, basada en un cuento homónimo, y que también puede llamársele All That Money Can Buy, ésto debido a que en la misma fecha, se publicó otra película con un nombre demasiado parecido, y decidieron cambiarlo. De todas formas, ambos nombres son correctos. También ha recibido otros nombres en ventas de vídeo y DVDs.

Esta película es una clásica y recordada historia Faústica, es decir, se hace un trato con el diablo. La historia comienza con todas las desgracias de unos granjeros en New Hampshire por el exceso de deudas, en particular de la familia Stone. Mr Stone lleno de desgracia se le sale por mera casualidad que vendería su alma por 2 centavos... Y claro, el diablo siempre atento, se le aparece dándole dos centavos que aparecen por arte de magia en sus manos. Dada la cantidad de dinero y fama que el diablo, alias Mr. Scratch, le propone, el firma un contrato con sangre que durará 7 años. Después de eso el diablo se lo llevará al infierno, muajuajua.

Mr. Stone con tanto dinero se vuelve un hombre despiadado y corrupto... A lo que Mr. Daniel Webster, padrino de su hijo y miembro del congreso habla con él para que cambie, o perderá a su familia. Ésto no sólo por el dinero, Mr. Scratch influye muchas veces en sus acciones, tentándolo muchas veces a cosas que antes no hubiera hecho jamás, lo que la hace una historia pintoresca y típica del diablo.

Finalmente, ante toda tentativa, Daniel Webster defiende a Mr. Stone, exigiendo un juicio con el Diablo. Y claro, el diablo inteligentemente elige perfectamente a los miembros del jurado, los hombres más malos y crueles que ha tenido USA. Esa escena, y bueno, la historia en general dio pie a una parodia en La casa del terror IV de Los Simpsons, cuando Homero vende su alma por una rosquilla, ja, ja, ja.

La película es súper interesante, y aún a setenta años después, no aburre, aunque para la gente de hoy puede resultar un poco lenta, además que está en blanco y negro.

La AFI (American Film Institute) la nominó a "AFI's 100 años de bandas sonoras", y "AFI's 10 Top 10" (nunca ganó :c).

Si quieren ver de forma pintoresca cómo el diablo influye y tienta en la gente, entonces ésta es su película.

A fantasy film published in wartime, based on a homonymous short story, and also called All That Money Can Buy, this is because on the same date, another film with a similar name was published. Either way, both names are correct. It has also received other names in video and DVD sales.

This film is a classic Faust story, that is, a deal is made with the devil. The story begins with all the misfortunes of a farmers in New Hampshire by the excess of debts, in particular of the Stone family. Mr. Stone, full of misfortune says loudly by mere chance that he would sell his soul for 2 cents... And of course, the devil always attentive, appears to give him two cents that appear magically in his hands. Given the amount of money and fame that the devil, aka Mr. Scratch, proposes, he signs a contract with blood that will last 7 years. After that the devil will take him to hell, muajauajua.

Mr. Stone with so much money becomes a ruthless and corrupt man... To which Mr. Daniel Webster, godfather of his son and congressman, talks to him tin order to convince him to change or he will lose his family. It was not only due to the money, Mr. Scratch often influences his actions, tempting him many times to do things that he would never do before, which makes it a picturesque and typical story of the devil. 

Finally, against any attempt, Daniel Webster defends Mr. Stone, demanding a trial with the Devil. And of course, the devil wisely chooses the jury members, the meanest and evilest men the USA has ever had. That scene, and well, the story per se in general gave rise to a parody in The House of Terror IV of The Simpsons, when Homer sells his soul for a donut, ha ha ha.

The film is super interesting, and even seventy years later, it does not bore, although for nowadays people it can be a little slow, moreover it's in black and white.

The AFI (American Film Institute) nominated this film to "AFI's 100 years of Film Scores" and "AFI's 10 Top 10".

Film fantastyczny opublikowany w czasie wojny, oparty na homonimicznej opowiadaniu, a także nazywał się All That Money Can Buy, ponieważ w tym samym dacie opublikowano kolejny film o podobnej nazwie. Tak czy owak, obie nazwy są poprawne. Otrzymała także inne nazwy w sprzedaży wideo i DVD.

 

 Ten film jest klasyczną opowieścią Fausta, czyli umowa jest wykonana z diabłem. Historia zaczyna się od wszystkich nieszczęść z rolników z New Hampshire w wyniku długów, w szczególności rodziny Stone. Pan Stone, pełen nieszczęść mówi głośno tylko przypadkowo, że sprzeda swoją duszę za 2 centy... I oczywiście, diabeł zawsze uważnie, pojawi się i da mu dwa centy, które pojawią się magicznie w jego rękach. Biorąc pod uwagę ilość pieniędzy i sławy, że diabeł, inaczej Pan Scratch, proponuje, on podpisuje umowę z krwią, który będzie trwał 7 lat. Potem diabeł zabierze go do piekła, muajauajua.

 

Pan Stone z tak dużą ilością pieniędzy staje się bezwzględnym i skorumpowanym człowiekiem... Na co Pan Daniel Webster, ojcem chrzestnym jego syna i kongresmana, rozmawia z nim tak, aby przekonać go do zmiany lub straci swoją rodzinę. To nie tylko pieniądze, ale Pan Scratch często wpływa na jego działania, kusząc go wiele razów, aby robić rzeczy, których nigdy wcześniej nie zrobił, co czyni go malowniczą i typową historią diabła.

Wreszcie, przeciw jakiejkolwiek próbie, Daniel Webster broni pana Stone'a, żądając rozprawę z diabłem. I oczywiście diabeł mądrze wybrał członków jury, najgorszych i najbardziej złośliwych ludzi, że Stany Zjednoczone miały. Ta scena, a właściwie historia ogólnie wzbudza parodię w Domu Terroru IV Simpsonów, kiedy Homer sprzedaje duszę za pączki, ha ha ha.

Ten film jest bardzo ciekawy, a nawet siedemdziesiąt lat później, to nie nudzi, choć dla dzisiejszych czasach ludzie mogą być trochę powolny, ponadto jest czarno-biały.
