¡What a film! Because it has what I like most, action, violence, good effects, fictitiously based on real facts** (only based, but the film is not about a real fact per se) and Russians, of course.
This thriller and mystery film, based on the homonymous novel of Tom Rob Smith, starts with the origin of the protagonist. A young man who lived in an orphanage in Ukraine during the time of Stalin, who let thousands of Ukrainians to starve death (say about 25 thousand died every day). The young protagonist joins the Russian military, and after several years becomes a national hero. However, this hero has problems with senior bosses because he must only blindly follow orders, no matter what happens.
The son of his best friend is found dead, naked, without intestines and physically abused, to which the government says that the young man was found with clothes and died by a train accident... As it appears in the first image, THERE ARE NO MURDERS IN PARADISE, which was what Stalin said. In his Russia, there was no such garbage as murder, which only existed in the West... (Fool!) This is how the drama begins. Later, they tell him that he has to follow a possible spy who happens to be his wife, and with that everything fucked up! As a good Russian, he will defend and protect his wife to death.
**I will not give any more spoiler, but I can say, that this story counts in the presence of the most famous serial killer of Russia, Andrei Chikatilo, although, of course, with another name in the novel. I adore that crazy man, because they have made several novels and films about/around him, and they are always interesting. The good thing about this film is what the Simpsons used to have, one thing happens and follows to another, and then stories that do not make sense connect to make finally good episodes. Here it's the same. Finally the protagonist becomes a detective of this serial killer. But what's so interesting about it? Well, at that time, since murder does not exist in paradise, much less a serial killer. And of course, the military agents of the government, who hide everything with nonsense like attacks of wolves, or inexplicable abuses, persecute this national hero, abandoned together with his wife, who do everything possible to survive. Both suffer several assassination attempts, humiliations and many hardships...
Finally, are they killed? Is there justice in Paradise? OMG, you have to see it to know: 3.
Again, a great film! It may be a bit slow for some of you, but it deserves to be seen.
